01/26/11 I photographed these anti-International Monetary Fund protesters in April 2000 across the street from a barricaded World Bank HQ in DC. This was the so-called “Washington A16 2000” riot/protest which occurred just a couple months following the massive street unrest of the “Battle of Seattle.” The DC protests were not as violent as Seattle but police arrested over 600 people – many the night before the protest began by raiding their planning sessions. I ran into the same black-clad horde of “Anarchists” a couple months later outside the Democratic National Convention in LA. They reminded me of Deadheads, following the band from city to city. After 09/11, they more or less vanished as a movement for whatever reason. I imagine these guys are all college professors nowadays.
