Robert Byrd Dies
06/28/10 West Virginia’s Senator Robert Byrd passed away this morning. The longest-serving member of Congress, former Klansman and king of pork barrel politics was 92. Here’s a photo I took of the Senator in 2002 as the National Rural Water Association presented him with it’s environmental award. He read some passages from his King James version of the Bible on water as part of his acceptance speech.

MJ
06/25/10 From the press release . . .
“Madame Tussauds D.C. joins all nine Madame Tussauds attractions worldwide – from Shanghai to New York – in paying tribute to Jackson, whose untimely passing June 25 of last year shocked the world. Each attraction will create its own tribute exhibit. Madame Tussauds D.C.’s exhibit will be free to the public, so that Washingtonians and visiting passersby alike will have a chance to be close to the “King of Pop” once again.
During the tribute fans will be able to pay their respects, take photos with his wax likeness and lay flowers at his feet. Jackson was an active and enthusiastic participant in the creation of his wax figure, which features the “King of Pop” singing with microphone in-hand, wearing an all-black outfit reminiscent of the one he is seen wearing on his Bad album cover. The tribute exhibit will be on display until July 23.”

Behind The Scenes: Miss DC 2010
06/21/10 I spent all day Sunday at the historic Lincoln Theater on U Street to photograph the 17 contestants vying hard for the Miss DC 2010 crown. I’ll post some images later on of the actual pageant but here are some backstage moments I captured.

SEI Restaurant/Lounge
06/21/10 Last Friday I photographed the uber-hip restaurant, SEI.
They’ve done away with other drinks and stocked the bar with Shochu – a distilled spirit, rarely found outside of Japan, with a higher alcohol content than sake.
